One Eagle Place

Eric Parry Architects had the extraordinary opportunity to renew an urban block at the very heart of Piccadilly. One Eagle Place, Piccadilly, is the Crown Estate’s first major project in their extensive St James’s portfolio, and involved replacing and reworking existing buildings in two Conservation Areas (Regent Street and St James’s) with both conserved and new façades.

The block includes a new building and façade in ceramic that utilises the sculptural and cast qualities of clay and polychromatic glazes. Renowned sculptor Richard Deacon was invited to undertake the commission to create a cornice that grows out of the body of the building creating a memorable dialogue between architecture and art. On Jermyn Street, a new building with a stone façade is augmented with a vigorous stone sculpture by Stephen Cox that mediates the street and sky from its position on the corner of Eagle Place.

While the site itself called for a mixed-use project, this part of our intervention now harbours an array of modern retail and work spaces that contribute to the rich architectural dialogue of daily work and shopping within the thriving locale of historic Piccadilly.
