New commercial building for the site of the existing Royex House adjacent to London Wall. A scheme was developed to create a new public space connecting Wood Street and Aldermanbury Square to the upper level of the Barbican High Walk.
The new 18-storey building sits above the public space and consists of two staggered wings divided by a receding central section that admits light into the triple-height ground floor reception space, linking the two entrances. The stainless steel cladding encloses the external perimeter structure. The facades are arranged with double height bays. The building was completed in 2007. The building was nominated for the prestigious Stirling Prize in 2009. It won the 2008 BCO National and Regional (London) Commercial Workplace Award, and was praised for setting a new benchmark for this part of London.
