Julian Ogiwara

Director
BSC (Hons) DipArch (UEL) RIBA

Julian Ogiwara studied architecture at the University of East London and then at the University of Westminster. He is a registered architect in the UK and a Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He joined Eric Parry Architects in 2000 and was appointed Director in 2011.

Building on the practice’s previous experience in Malaysia, in 2013 Julian helped to set up Eric Parry Studio in Singapore. He has since been based there, with responsibility for delivering projects for our clients throughout Asia. Notably, he has been involved in mixed-use master plans in Malaysia and Singapore, and under his leadership the studio has delivered some of the most sought after luxury apartments in central Tokyo, Japan.

While still in the practice’s London office, Julian was responsible for Vicarage Gate House, an exclusive residential project in Kensington, and the rooftop spa extension and interior fit-out for the Four Seasons Hotel on Park Lane.

Prior to that, Julian gained wide-ranging experience on a variety of the practice’s projects: the Leathersellers’ Hall interiors, Selfridges & Co Oxford Street, 60 Threadneedle Street, the Royal Lancaster Hotel and the planning stages of Aldermanbury Square. He was also involved in the competition stages for St Martin-in-the-Fields and The Heart of Doha in Qatar. Julian was instrumental in the publication of the first practice monograph, Eric Parry Architects Volume I.

Julian maintains a keen interest in materials and craftsmanship. He has in the past worked for Matthew Marchbank, joiner and furniture maker, and is a regular attendee at the Cambridge Violin Makers’ workshops. He has also run architectural workshops in Japan for the University of East London with Peter Salter and Michele Rolofsma. More recently Julian was a guest critic at Singapore University of Technology and Design and a judge at the World Architecture Festival.
