Eric Parry Architects were commissioned to create a masterplan for the redevelopment of a settlement called Millbank in Aberdeenshire. The client, a private estate, has a long-term vision for the development, which resulted in a brief to establish a viable sustainable community to be created with sustainable architecture, servicing infrastructure and landscape proposals. The masterplan starts modestly but allows for future expansion through zoning, planting, routes, and a design guide. The client’s ambition is to attract employment to the settlement, improve amenities for the area and provide a mix of dwelling types. We have worked closely with Aberdeenshire County Council and coordinated community consultation workshops to integrate the existing community and councillor into the design process. The masterplan proposal locates the Community Hall at its centre creating continuity between the existing and the new communities.
