The Royal Lancaster Hotel, located on the north side of London's Hyde Park, was originally built as a speculative office-block and soon after converted into a hotel. Today the Royal Lancaster is one of the largest and most adaptable conference facilities in central London. After negotiations with Royal Parks, planning permission was gained from Westminster City Council for the reworking of the entire envelope of the hotel podium. The renewal of the podium has allowed for an extension to the existing hotel that has provided new suites or syndicate rooms, offices and the new Island restaurant and private dining rooms. The tired pre-cast concrete panels of the original building have been replaced with a new continuous self-supporting limestone façade and large windows.
